Mistletoe Blog Hop, check out this great giveaway
Holiday romances are so much fun, whether it is about reconnecting or finding new love, something about the winter holidays just compounds those amazing feelings and makes for some great love stories. It is a great time to publish a holiday romance because people are in the mood for wonderful escapes. Last year I wrote a holiday romance titled Cherished Gift from the Paranormal Hypnotherapy Files.
It is a second chance at love romance centered around soulmates and past lives with a little danger sprinkled into the mix to make it a Brumfield original.
Everyone loves the winter holiday season, except Jenna. For as long as she can remember her holiday season has been filled with night terrors that have destroyed every relationship in her life. It is like she is cursed. She doesn't know it, but she is. At her lowest moments she meets Clara, a hypnotherapist who helps her disconnect the past life night terrors and along the way, find her soulmate. Just as Michael and Jenna reconnect in this life they have a showdown with the demon that has plagued their existences for over a century. It is a great little HEA holiday novella (I like to call them lunchtime escapes). Grab a copy on Amazon for only $0.99 here.
As a thank you for stopping by on the hop I'd like to give you an opportunity to get a FREE read. Just sign up for my newsletter at this link and you'll receive a free copy of Rayne's Thunder (part one) Master Chef.

The story behind Assassin's Mate (Supernaturally Shipwrecked Series) plus excerpt and video
December 15th, 2015 is the release date for Assassin's Mate from the Supernaturally Shipwrecked Series. The novella is a HEA for a Tigress named Silver aka Scarlet and her Panther mate Brock. Every book in this series will be HEA or HFN for the adult romances and can be read out of order just like my Demon Fairy Tales (Dragons' Succubus and Dragon's Demon Dancer), Vanished (Death Interrupted and The Mating Challenge), Mystery Springs (The Witch's Vampire), Magical Secrets (Genie's Treasure), and the Paranormal Hypnotherapy Files (Cherished Gift).
I started this series as a shifter dating cruise which was connected to the Refuge Island which is an island paranormal creatures go to for sanctuary. Silver/Scarlett's sister, brother, mom and pop are actually in hiding on this island and Silver goes to work for a cruise line as a way to escape her psychotic ex-fiance. This was adapted from the dating cruise idea to an action packed, page turning adventure of a man falling for a girl and risking his life to save her from marrying the wrong man. Going forward the series will focus on patrons of the supernatural cruise ship and Refuge Island.
I also decided to try cat shifters in this novella because I polled my reading club and they mentioned cat shifters would be an interesting change. I really enjoyed writing the purr-fect romance for these two characters and I think you're going to finish the book and feel good about the romantic story and the adventure.
Check out more from me on the novella in this video.

Introduction:
Scarlett Jennings is on the
run from a sadistic ex-fiancé. She takes refuge on a supernatural cruise liner
as a dancer. She doesn’t make plans for her future because she knows he will
find her someday. Brock Martin is part of an order of assassins. He hops on the
supernatural cruise to kill his next target but is intercepted by a red-headed
tigress. After one kiss he makes plans to take out his mark and spend the rest
of the week courting the beautiful dancer. There’s only one problem with those
plans, his Scarlett has a hefty price on her head and he’s been dispatched to
collect.
Chapter One
Scarlett Jennings caught a movement
out of her peripheral vision as she was working through the new choreography
for the coming night’s performance backstage. Damn cat vision was more of a
curse than a blessing. Being the only one scheduled for the stage for the next thirty
minutes the appearance of another person was suspicious. The hair that rose on
the back of her neck had her running softly after the intruder when she landed
from her leap across the stage. Something wasn’t right. If she was smart she’d
call the cruise line’s security team, but she and authorities didn’t mix well
and she’d feel idiotic if she called the cops on a fellow dancer that was
simply getting ready for his scheduled time on the stage. It wasn’t the best way
to make a first impression with whoever the stranger was, and she couldn’t afford
the drama that might come from narking on a colleague who wasn’t doing anything
wrong. Without this job, she only had one other option and sanctuary wasn’t the
right move at the moment. It would put those she loved in danger. She needed this
dancing gig far more than she’d ever admit out loud.
Her slippered feet padded silently
across the floor as she followed the shadowy figure that went deeper into the
unauthorized area of the ship. She was pretty sure this intruder wasn’t a
fellow performer and began to rethink her pursuit. The cat that shared her mind
warned of danger and flooded her body with adrenaline. The instinct to turn and
escape was strong, but the urge to chase prey was stronger. The cat and human
were at odds, and once again the tigress would win the battle for control. Her
speed picked up as she continued to follow the mysterious figure further into
the ship.
He, (she assumed he was a he
because of his build), took a left down a restricted hallway. She continued her
stalking, and was taken by surprise when strong arms snaked around her waist
and slammed her against the ship’s wall. “What the…” the impact took her breath
away and his dangerous looks robbed her of her second breath.
His hand covered her mouth as he
moved closer to her neck and whispered, “Why are you following me?”
Her heart beat double time. Her
eyes grew large, pupils dilated as fear flooded her system. She felt a primal
need to escape, but another, deep down, wanted to stay. This wasn’t the same
fear she felt in Joshua’s presence. This was different. She tried to talk, but
his large hand muffled her words. “Mrph um mph.”
“I’m going to remove my hand. If
you scream, I’ll break your neck, understand?”
Scarlett nodded. His words should’ve
chilled her to the core, should have, but they didn’t. His intensity excited
her. Something was obviously wrong with her mind. She’d never felt so many
mixed feelings. Her first inclination was to fight the man, and her second was
to kiss his rugged lips. Everywhere he touched a spark lit in her nerves and
sent her brain into panic mode. Her fight-or-flight instinct should take over,
only, instead, she wanted to curl up in the man’s lap and purr.
Slowly, he moved his hand from her
lips, but kept his other hand on her waist, fingernails digging softly into her
flesh holding her against the wall, and keeping her from fleeing even if she
wanted to, which was the farthest thing from her thoughts in that minute.
“Why are you following me?” The
snarl in his voice was far from scary, more sexy and primal.
Gods, Scarlett. Pull
it together, she chastised herself silently. “I saw you backstage and was
curious,” she lied.
“So you put yourself at risk out of
curiosity?” He sounded irritated with her. Why? He was the one doing suspicious
things.
She shrugged. “You know what they say,
‘curiosity kills the cat’.”
Uncomfortable silence spread
between them as he stared into her eyes, like he could see into her soul and
read her thoughts. Finally he said, “I suppose you’re going to tell me you’re a
cat shifter.”
His grip on her waist eased up, and
she felt sad at the loss of pressure from his hand. She never liked the bad boy
types, probably because her ex-fiancé was the worst of the devils, but
something about this man made her ignite. “I’ll share what I am if you’ll
reciprocate.”
A tiny tick started in his cheek,
just below his dimple, and his mossy green eyes narrowed on her with distrust.
“Panther.”
“Tiger,” she replied, thankful he
gave in enough to share his alter ego with her. “What are you doing down
here? It’s restricted.” She whispered
loudly.
He readjusted the strap to the
shoulder bag she just realized he was carrying. The action caused a lock of his
black hair to fall into his eyes. She resisted the urge to reach up and brush
it back. It had been too long since she’d found comfort in a man’s arms. It was
the only way she could describe the feelings whirling around her body like a
tornado.
“Do you make a habit of asking
strangers questions that could get you killed?”
The bluntness of his words were
like a kick to the gut. The man had already threatened to break her neck and
now he was implying her actions could get her killed? She’d seen danger all her
life, her home was virtually a warzone. It was why she couldn’t go back. She
couldn’t lose this job because far worse hazards waited for her there.
“If threatening a girl is your
usual pick…” her words were cut off when his lips pressed against hers. At
first, she denied his advance, but the slide of his tongue along her lips
tempered any resistance, and she opened up to him and the pleasures he was
offering. He didn’t hesitate to deepen the kiss. His grip on her waist
tightened, and his other hand eased into the red curls at the nape of her neck
forcing her head back allowing him more control.
She’d never been kissed by a
handsome stranger before, and she intended to enjoy the moment. His tongue took
authority and rolled over hers like an ocean wave driving her desire up a notch,
stealing her breath away. Tension tightened in her middle and grew needy as his
hot, ready body pressed her harder against the cold metal wall of the ship.
They began the primal dance pressing their bodies together at the center and
grinding to a silent rhythm that made them want more.
Her leg rose of its own accord and
wrapped around his waist pulling him harder against her as he masterfully thrust
his hardness against her. His fingers on her waist moved to her thigh and she
felt a pleasurable sting as his fingernails bit slightly into her flesh. Desire
and want rose in her and threatened to send her soaring into the sky like one of
the jumps in her dance.
“What are you two doing in here?”
The harsh tone of a security guard hissed at them, washing over Scarlett like a
cold shower.
The
bastard kissed me to keep from getting caught! They broke from the kiss,
both short of breath, staring oddly into each other’s eyes. A connection was
made, no doubt. What that connection was she couldn’t say with her mind all
jumbled and confused.
He grinned, and with inhuman speed,
picked her up and held her in his arms. “Sorry, officer, we just got married
and were looking for a little privacy.”
Married? She didn’t even know the
man’s name, and she was suddenly his alibi for some sort of criminal activity,
she was sure, but the passion he lit in her from a single kiss kept her from
saying what her brain knew was right. She simply blushed – blushed, and allowed him to carry her off as the security guard
escorted them out of the restricted area.

Nanny cams... where do we draw the line?
Okay, this one is a difficult topic for me. Why? Because my husband and I are currently in the process of trying to have kids. Trying and failing but we're giving it our best shot. I have, however, had a hand in helping to raise my six brothers and sisters all younger than me so I do have some experience in caring about the well being of children, while I didn't give birth to them, I did and still do, love them unconditionally, despite the chaos of sibling relationships.
I guess in a way I can use that experience and what I think I will be like as a parent to weigh in on this interesting topic. As a parent I think I would opt for a nanny cam if I had a new sitter. It would be scary to leave my kids alone with someone I didn't know very well and it would give me piece of mind. If they prove themselves to me, over time I might be inclined to remove the spying device. We didn't have these things growing up and I and my siblings turned out okay I think. When we had a problem with a sitter we told our mom and that sitter wasn't used again. This made us learn the importance of speaking up. Something I do a lot of as an adult.
But I think this debate goes deeper than just the nanny cam. Speaking as an average adult, not a parent, I have to ask the question, "when does it stop?" My husband does this with me all the time. How far is too far? I did mention above I'm not a parent yet so I can imagine some parents out there cringing and I totally respect that. The thing is, we've seen it sensationalized on television and in the movies, heck even books point out how hard it is to go unnoticed anymore with all the cameras watching our every move. If you walk down a downtown street, you're liable to be picked up by hundreds of cameras which could possibly be viewed by all sorts of entities, including the government. It makes for great fiction writing, especially science fiction, thrillers, police procedural, mysteries etc but is it good for real life?
So here's the deal, yes to the nanny cams because they are in your home and no to big brother watching our every move. I mean does big brother want to see someone picking their nose or scratching their... well you know... heck, do you want to see it? I can imagine, if things keep going the way they are going now, there will be a television channel that will show random people on the street, all day, everyday, and it would probably be one of the highest rated stations out there.
Don't get me wrong, there are definitely places where cameras are important. Especially when people are concerned with public safety but they say, everything in moderation. Some cameras watching us are good, I think but how extreme do we want to take it? That really is the question. Feel free to weigh in with your opinion below. If you have a blog and want to participate in the blog hop here is the link

Tasty treat of the Kindle Worlds project for The Vampire Diaries titled Nightmare World
I just wrote my first novella for the Kindle Worlds The Vampire Diaries titled Nightmare World and I'm so excited to hear what others think of this story. It was absolute fun playing around in the world created by LJ Smith. My hats off to an amazing series.
In this novella I decided to change the course of history. Imagine what Mystic Falls would be like if Elena had been put in a coma after the car accident that claimed her parents' lives. Two years later she wakes up to a very different world... one made of nightmares and her family plays a large part in keeping a not-so-wonderful town in order.
Check out the excerpt below and check out the novella on Amazon here.
I also included a "behind the scenes" and "why I wrote this novella" video below. I hope you enjoy.

Two years later she wakes up to a very different world... one made of nightmares and her family plays a large part in keeping a not-so-wonderful town in order.
Check out the excerpt below and check out the novella on Amazon here.
Introduction:
Two years
after the accident that killed her parents Elena Gilbert awakens from a coma to
a world of nightmare proportions. Her little brother Jeremy and legal guardian
Jenna are hunters, the vampires, witches and werewolves are at war, and the
humans of Mystic Falls have become casualties of the conflict.
While
carrying out her new hunter duties, Elena and her friends and family find out
about a plot to bring peace to the town of Mystic Falls but at what cost?
How will
Elena fit into this world that has continued on in her absence? Will the
charismatic Alaric Saltzman find a way to bring the paranormal factions to a
peaceful resolution? What are the feuding Salvatore brothers up to? This new
nightmare world is a reality and they must learn to make it home again.
Nightmare
World is an action packed, fast paced novella inspired by the award winning,
bestselling Vampire Diaries series.
Excerpt:
THERE WAS
NOTHING TO PATROLLING, other than facing the stone cold reality that Mystic
Falls was a barren, desolate battleground. The streets that once held so much
laughter, happy faces, friendly neighbors, and a massive amount of town
friendly activities was now littered with death and destruction. Most of the
storefronts were boarded up. All supplies for the hunters were delivered in
caravans from the government. The town was sanctioned off from the outside
world. No one was allowed to go in or out of the borders unless they were
approved by the authorities. It was their way of containing the nightmare they lived
in.
Even communication outside the
city was monitored. As far as she knew, the outside world had no idea of the
terror that lurked on the streets of this once wonderful village. A cat
scurried down an alley and had Elena jumping in her skin. She kept hoping she’d
wake up and find herself home, safe and sound, in the past.
“Keep moving, we have an
appointment to keep.” Jeremy’s gruff voice cut into her thoughts as he
quickened his pace.
Elena had to speed walk just to
catch up to him. “What appointment,” she whispered. He had told her they were
going on a simple patrol not meeting up with someone. He didn’t answer just
turned right down Main street, a deviation from the route they were supposed to
be on. “Jer, this isn’t our sector.”
He didn’t respond or even look
her way as he turned down a darkened alley which smelled of excrement and
rotting food, the ammonia tainted air made her pause at the mouth of the dark
side street. Jeremy wasn’t acting normal, but then again what was normal? She
didn’t want to go any further but her little brother had disappeared into the
shadows and she needed to protect him. That is what Gilbert’s did. As she took
one step into the black abyss she hoped Jeremy remembered that.
Within moments she had caught up
to him and was overjoyed at the sight of her best friend, Bonnie. She’d been
home for a month since waking up from the coma and hadn’t seen anyone but
Caroline, Jeremy and Jenna. Bonnie looked different now in a black dress that
covered her dark skin from her shoulders to her ankles and hugged curves she
never knew the girl had. Her dark hair flowed around her shoulders in natural
waves and her amber eyes seemed to dance in delight at spotting Elena. She
quickly handed Jeremy the small plastic baggie and ran to hug her best friend.
Arms wrapped around her shoulders
in an embrace that brought back countless childhood memories, happy times. They
were thick as thieves growing up and happy. They had problems but together they
overcame them which built a stronger bond between them, almost sisterly.
“When Jeremy told me you had
woken up I was ecstatic. I would’ve come to see you but witches aren’t allowed
in the hunter’s headquarters.” She pulled back and cupped her friend’s face.
“You look terrible.”
Her brutal honesty was like a
slap in the face but refreshing. After a moment of silence, they both burst
into quiet chuckles. “Thanks, Bon Bon.”
“I prayed to my ancestors every
day for a healthy return and here you are, standing before me.”
Hearing Bonnie Bennett talk about
witches and ancestors was unnerving. She’d been told of Bonnie and Caroline’s
changes over the last two years while she was locked away in the deep sleep
that kept her from the living. She had done everything she could to prepare
herself to eventually see Bonnie as the supposed enemy but nothing she did made
the reality plausible. In no universe would Bonnie be an enemy to her. It just
wasn’t something she could prepare for.
Witches and hunters were not
friends for a very good reason. The witches created the werewolves and Vampires
and the hunters killed them. Despite the witches attempt to maintain balance
the with the sun and moon curse, the hunters still had to police both species.
“I can’t believe you’re a witch,
a real witch. I remember you talking to me about being psychic but hearing you
call yourself a witch is just… overwhelming.”
Bonnie nodded, “it was an adjustment
but the hardest part is being on opposite sides from my friends. I can’t stand
the idea that we are supposed to be enemies.”
“That’s all it is, an idea. No
one can make me think of you as an enemy.” Elena insisted.
Bonnie pulled her into a hug
again. “You’re right. Now to find a way to convince Caroline the same.”
“I’m the one that gossips in this
group, ladies, not you.” Caroline’s voice came up behind them and the hair on
Elena’s arms stood at attention.
“God, Caroline, how many times
have I told you not to sneak up on us.” Jeremy had his gun aimed her direction
before she even came into view.
Caroline embraced Elena in a
tight hug that threatened to suck the air out of her lungs. “Oh, Elena, it is
so great to see you out and about!” She ignored Jeremy and smiled at her
friends. “I was beginning to worry that you were going to stay locked up in
that house for the rest of eternity.”
“Yes because that is a healthy
alternative to skipping patrol duty.” Elena struggled to keep from rolling her
eyes.
“It is definitely a safer option,”
a familiar voice from her past spoke from the shadows.
“Matt?”
“In the flesh.” He joined them
and smiled as he wrapped an arm around Caroline’s waist.
Elena sucked in another deep
breath, she knew Matt and Caroline were dating but seeing it was yet another
sucker punch to the gut. The world really had gone on while she was sleeping
away trapped in her mind. She hated to admit it but they were a stunning
couple. Matt, the blond hair blue eyed quarterback and Caroline the blonde
hair, green eyed head cheerleader. Elena shook her head. That was the past.
They were now Mystic Falls Police officers. “You look… good.” She looked at
both of them, “and I hear congratulations are in order.”
Caroline nodded, her blonde curls
bounced around her shoulders. Even though she followed in her mother’s
footsteps as an officer of the law, she still brought rays of sunshine wherever
she went, the perky, slightly control freakishly, sunny best friend that always
wore a smile no matter what problem she faced. “I hope you’re okay with this,”
she pointed to her and Matt, “when had the accident and when my mom got sick,
Matt was there to help me through it. Without him, I probably would’ve died
from heartbreak, for realsie.”
Matt glanced down at the slimy
ground, “yea, we both helped each other through painful times.”
Elena nodded her understanding.
It hurt to see him with Caroline, cut deep like a knife into her soul, but they
seemed oddly ‘right’ for each other. “I’m fine, life goes on.” The truth was
she had finally decided to break up with Matt before the accident so this made
that transition easier, but in her mind that hadn’t happened which took away
her opportunity for closure. None of that mattered, because she needed her
friends and couldn’t afford to lose another person. “I never would’ve imagined you
two being part of the police.”
“We couldn’t just stand by and
watch our town fall apart without doing something to help.” Matt replied.
“And not all of us have
supernatural hunter abilities and the force needed recruits.” Caroline chimed
in.
Her friends were still familiar
but so different. It was a lot to take in.
“Okay, if we’re going to save
Vickie we need to go.” Jeremy slipped something in his mouth and shoved his
phone into his black jeans.
“Wait, what do you mean, save
Vickie?”
“We’ll explain on the way. Let’s
go.” Caroline grabbed Elena’s hand, the warmth startled her for a moment but
she quickly recovered and followed the group.
I also included a "behind the scenes" and "why I wrote this novella" video below. I hope you enjoy.
